Rain and Shine has been pretty quiet here in our strange 2020, but there are big plans for a fresh emergence from the weird haze we're in, for 2021!
Our lovely 20-acre field (pictured below) in Shepherdsville is slowly and steadily becoming the new second home to the very small operations of Rain and Shine. We've enjoyed being able to explore the accompanying woods, too, and picturesque Knob Creek runs right through it. It's been great fun and already some hard work and learning opportunities. In 2021, there are plans to add a greenhouse as well, which will extend the growing season considerably!
With the outlook for wide availability of a Covid vaccine looking to be right during or just beyond the spring plant-buying/farmer's market season, the plan here at Rain and Shine is to get growing, use the time to learn about small scale farming, and get creative with how you shop. This means you likely won't see Rain and Shine in a market setting in 2020, but this quiet time gives a unique opportunity to explore other ways to sell products, and to allow time for practice and learning about running a small, no-till, pollinator-attracting, no toxic chemicals added farm.
